The Entrepreneurship Award sponsored by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byer celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit by recognizing a team that, since inception, has developed the framework for a comprehensive business plan to scope, manage, and achieve team objectives. This team displays entrepreneurial enthusiasm and the vital business skills for a self-sustaining program. In order to be considered for this award, a formal business plan must be completed and a copy given to the judges during the Pit interview process.
A business plan is important to the long term success of any organization, and FIRST Robotics Competition teams are not any different. In 2008, we put together a business plan to submit to our high school for starting a FIRST Robotics Competition team. To meet the requirements of the KPCB Entrepreneurship Award, the business plan was updated in January 2009 to include an Executive Summary.
We were quite honored to win this prestigious award in 2009 at the Traverse City FIRST Robotics District Competition. The following is the complete Business Plan document that we submitted to the judges. We printed multiple copies of the business plan, as well as our entire Pit interview PowerPoint presentation, to give to the judges.
