FIRST Robotics Competitions (FRC) for all Michigan teams fall under the guidance of
FIRST in Michigan, a volunteer based organization whose mission is to make FIRST a reality in Michigan through the durable establishment of a FIRST Robotics Competition team in every high school.
Although most FRC teams have year round activities, the actual competition season begins early January every year with the official Kickoff Event. The kickoff is highlighted by a live, 10:30am EST, worldwide video broadcast from New Hampshire, where FIRST is headquartered. The game challenge for that year is unveiled and each registered team collects their kit of parts from local kickoff locations.
Brainstorming and planning for most teams begins that afternoon and throughout the first week. For the next six weeks, the dedication of the students becomes obvious as numerous hours are spent in the construction and testing of the new robot, as well as preparing materials to be presented to judges for different awards.
