Jason Law's fascination with the Lego Mindstorm kits and the hours he would spend creating the robots foreshadowed the founding of the Bionic Barons. When introduced to FIRST Robotics in September 2007, as a middle school 8th grader, he was looking forward to actively pursuing his interest in engineering, science and technology by joining the high school's robotics competiton team the following year.
When Jason discovered that the Bloomfield Hills high school he was planning on attending did not have a robotics team, he saw a need that had to be met. With encouragement from his father, and the help and advice of Gail Alpert of Team 469, Jason embarked on establishing a FIRST Robotics Competition team for Andover High School. After gaining support from the school district and its superintendent, he and his dad wrote the team handbook, recruiting brochures and began fundraising. By the summer of 2008, before Jason was to start high school, a small team of five interested students had formed. The Bionic Barons, Team 2834, were now an entity.
In 2009, the Bionic Barons had a remarkable rookie season. Despite having a small team of seven students, we did extremely well in the two Michigan district events and qualified for the Michigan State Championship and then the World Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
