The Rookie All-Star Award celebrates the rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology. This is essentially the "Chairman's Award for Rookie teams". FIRST invites and encourages, but does not require, rookie teams to enter a Chairman's Award submission relative to this award. However, the judges will take into consideration this submission in determining the winner of the Rookie All-Star Award. This submission will document where your team started its FIRST journey and will also provide background for documenting the results of your team's efforts – it will be a great way to start your team's effort to win the Chairman's Award in the future.
If you prepare a Chairman's Award submission, print a copy to give to the judges when they visit your Pit Station. This is because judges will not be viewing them online for the Rookie All-Star Award. You can also prepare a video, in DVD format, to explain what your team has done. Having a Chairman's Award submission and a DVD for the judges will greatly enhance your chance of winning this award. We were quite honored to be one of two teams that won this prestigious award in 2009 at the FRC Michigan State Championship.
The following is the complete Chairman's Award submission that we gave to the judges. In each packet that we gave to the judges, we included a copy of the submission, the entire Pit interview PowerPoint presentation and a DVD.
